Schooling You on Private Schools
by Conner Schueler

Whether or not to send your child to private school is
a difficult and important decision. The right decision
depends on the specific child and what is in his or her
best interests. The most important thing for parents
to do that are faced with this decision is to take
their time and really consider the pros and cons of
sending their child to private school. The parents should
discuss the decision and make it together since it is a
decision that will impact the child for the rest of their
lives.

The first question you must ask yourself when considering
putting your child in private school is why are you
thinking about doing it. If your child is currently in
public school you will want to consider if you are pleased
with his or her performance. Do you think the school
is filling your child's needs? If your child is having
problems with other children in school and you are thinking
of putting them in private school as a result you will want
to consider the message you are giving your child. Perhaps,
it will teach the child to avoid problems rather than
address and solve them.

However, if your main reason for putting your child into
private school is so that they can receive things they
are not currently receiving in public school than you may
want to start your research. Many private schools are
better able to focus on the children and a well-rounded
education that includes the cor classes plus more fine
arts, music and better science and math courses. This is
especially true if your child has special educational
needs because of a physical or learning disability.
Some private schools are better equipped to care for such
children and provide them with the special attention they
need.

Private schools can be quite costly and it is not always
possible for families to be able to afford the tuition.
There are grants, loans and scholarships available to help
provide the education your children need and deserve. These
programs are run very similar to those for colleges and
universities. You should do your research on each private
school as well as the tuition assistance they provide.
Plan to visit the schools on your narrowed down list and
see which school is the right fit for your child and fits
with your ideals for a school as well.

Finally, once you and your child have chosen the private
school that is on the top of the list, begin the
application process. This process varies from school
to school, but usually consists of an interview of your
child to see if he or she will benefit from this particular
school.
