Caribbean Cruise Safety Tips
by Traves da Costa

A trip on a cruise ship is an exciting vacation, but is
even more so when the cruise is to a Caribbean destination.
Caribbean vacations offer a special, exciting adventure ~
one that incorporates mystery with romance. A cruise
through the Caribbean allows you a chance to explore these
ports of call, and return to the ship to enjoy nights and
days of sailing luxury.

While you~re getting ready for your trip, take some time to
gather some self-care items. You want to be healthy so you
can thoroughly enjoy your experience. You are heading into
a tropical climate, and most likely will spend many hours
soaking up the rays while on deck. Skin cancer, or
melanoma, is at an all time high. In fact cases have risen
by as much as 400% according to some. You will definitely
want to take care of your skin.

Bring along some dermatologist-approved sunscreen and make
sure you apply it on before going out in the strong sun.
Some sunscreens cause skin irritations, so ask your doctor
to recommend a sunscreen that would best suit you. Any
time you go into the water, reapply the sunscreen.

Another important item to pack is your sunglasses. Get a
pair with high-level UV protection to prevent sun damage to
your eyes. Wearing sunglasses not only keep your eyes safe
from sunshine and glare, they help to prevent wrinkles
like crow~s feet that can appear around your eyes due to
squinting from the sun~s brightness.

Packing the right attire can help with sun protection as
well. For instance, a hat or cap that has a brim or bill to
keep your face shaded is in order. You don~t want to make
the mistake of wearing a hat that is open at the top of the
head. Even with your hair, the sun can burn your scalp, and
possibly cause melanoma. The other advantage of a hat is
that it will keep the drying sun off at least part of your
hair.

Your outfits should fit loosely and be light in color. Dark
colors tend to absorb the hot sun, while lighter ones
bounce it off of you. The fabrics your clothing is made
from should be tightly, rather than loosely woven;
otherwise some of the rays can pass directly through to
your skin. You~ll also want to take a sweater or light
jacket for any chilly, windy evenings.

If you~ve ever encountered a problem with motion sickness,
you may want to pack some medication for this problem. Ask
your physician or pharmacist about a patch or a pill that
can help prevent your problem.

It is possible to become seasick even if the ship looks as
if it isn~t moving. The motion of the waves tells your
brain that you~re moving, and pretty soon your mind is
confused and you feel sick. When you are out on deck, keep
your eyes on the horizon as much as you can.
