Importance of a Resume
by Ethan Obten

Your resume is a piece of paper, a document that
you give to a potential employer. It it has on it, your
personal and contact information, a brief summary of your
education, and relevant work experience and
accomplishments. It usually will contain references and a
statement of why the person reading it would be wise to
hire you. Then you attach the papers to the employment
application and turn it to a secretary, or mail it off,
and hope for the best. Your resume has a task. It's job
is to get you an interview with the person doing the
hiring. Writing a resume that will accomplish it's only
task is NOT as easy as you may think. There is no specific
rules for writing your resume, you can design the format
and change it to match the desired position. Because
there are no strict rules, tips are just creative
suggestions. So in order to write the resume to accomplish
it's purpose, you have to design it to display the
information in an effective manner.

You can begin to write your own resume by gathering the
basic information needed for writing the resume. You may
find that most books about resume writing are outdated,
and do not apply very well to the modern job market.
Perhaps, asking other people, especially those recently
hired to similar jobs, what format of resume they used.
The resume format does not have to be new to land you that
job. It can be the same format as other people who have
gotten good jobs.

You can keep yourself ahead your competitors as a superior
candidate by writing a good quality resume with some extra
effort. Most resumes could not draw the attention of the
prospective employers as the resumes do not give the
require information desired by the employer. You may get
calls for interviews before the competitors who are more
qualified than you, if you write a good quality resume.

So now you are thinking that your current resume is
suitable, or even above average, for the job. You are sure
that it is up to the task of getting noticed. In reality,
your resume may be much weaker than you think. In fact you
may want to read it over again and consider updating the
style or method of showing your information. To help you
decide what changes to make, imagine your resume, among
all those resumes from the other job candidates. What is
making yours stand out in a positive way?

When you apply for a job which you think to be a perfect
job for you, you should remember that there are hundreds of
competitors applying for that job. You should write in
such a way that should awake the sleepy employer who is
bored in reading a number of similar resumes. If you write
with good quality and new format, the employer may see your
resume and wake up with interest. You should write in such
a manner that the employer get more attention as the eading
continues.

If the employer has gone through your resume once with
interest, the employer will take a glimpse at the remaining
resumes and your resume will be kept in the top of a heap
of resumes.
