Some Advice On Shopping In Thrift Stores

Are you fed up with buying clothing that looks alike?
Styles, colors, designs are repeated everywhere you go. It
makes no difference whether you shop in a mall department
store or in a boutique, you will not find originality in
either of them. If it is innovation you are after then
thrift stores are
the place for you. They propose a different and unique
alternative. The things sold in these shops are not
available in other stores because there is only one of its
kind. In addition to the fact that buying at these places
is incredibly cheap, the garments you get can turn out to
be particularly trendy. If you have a flair for fashion
you will be able to invent your own chic out of a
combination of old-fashioned and modern styles.
When you first decide to embark on a thrift store
shopping spree, there are a few things to remember.
Firstly, a lot of thrift stores only take cash, so if
you are used to grabbing your parents credit card and going
to town, you will have to make other arrangements. Some
stores do take checks, so you might want to have your
checkbook handy. Secondly, a lot of thrift stores do
not have dressing rooms, so you will probably want to wear
a light t-shirt so you can try on your finds right where
you find them. And most importantly, you are probably
not going to find anything that fits you absolutely
perfectly. You cannot go in looking for your size. You
will have to try on what looks promising and see if you
can alter it in any way if needed.
And last but not least, there is a chance you might find
clothes that do not fit you totally greatly. In these types
of stores, you might not find your own size and the best
thing to do is buy what looks great to modify it later.
Generally, thrift stores that are located in the trendiest
places of town do not have the most fashionable clothes.
This happens because lots of people also choose to wear
clothes from thrift stores. However, the best vintage
clothes can be found at incredibly cheap prices in the
worst places in town. Maybe you will have to drive to the
suburbs or to an uncool neighborhood. You will see that
what some girls throw away can become the best item of
your wardrobe.
Shirts are typically the easiest items to find at thrift
stores, because they allow more flexibility in the
fitting department. You can find some excellent western
shirts in rural areas, and there are always witty
t-shirts on the little boys racks. If you are looking
for a good pair of jeans, however, you might want to
check the mens section. Thrift stores typically stock
a plethora of pleated-front tapered-leg acid-washed
jeans in the ladies section, so you will rarely find
anything cool on those racks. However, the mens
section can be filled with surprisingly girlish slacks
in interesting colors and textures. There have also
been known to be great pairs of vintage Levis hanging
in the mens racks.
But jeans are not the only cool item you might find in a
thrift store. If you are looking for a vintage dress, you
will surely see lots of unbelievable trendy dresses. Of
course, thrift stores are full of flowery dresses and red
pleated skirts, so you may have to look for your dress
among a whole lot of horrible ones! Do not stop looking
until you have checked every single dress on the racks,
there is a good chance you may find just what you are
looking for.
Thrift stores are also an excellent place to find work
clothes for a job interview or a new office job. If you
would rather save your money for more fun items, you can
always replenish your work wardrobe with some
inexpensive black skirts and dress shirts from the
local Salvation Army or Goodwill. Work people will
never know that your new suit only cost you five bucks.
They would just be happy that you are not wearing your
favorite club get-up to the important meeting again.
