Most red and white meats are very fatty and are not a
healthy way to eat. Seafood on the other hand offers you a
great tasting alternative. When cooked correctly you
couldn~t ask for a better tasting meal.
Seafood can be purchased either fresh or frozen. By freezing
the seafood fresh it can be shipped all over the world so
everyone can have the opportunity to enjoy fresh seafood
that they may not otherwise be able to enjoy.
If you decide to use unfrozen seafood only, there are a few
ways to tell if the fish for instance, is actually really
fresh. Firstly, the eyes on the fish must be clear and
bulging. The gills on the fish must be red, not pink at all,
and the flesh should feel firm. And above all ironically,
fresh fish should not smell fishy - it should smell fresh.
If you keep fresh fish refrigerated at 39 degrees and use it
as soon as possible you should be just fine. But if there is
any doubt do not eat it as seafood that is off can make you
very ill indeed.
The best way to cook seafood is when it is still frozen. A
lot of people prefer the taste of it when it has been cooked
on a barbeque grill. Wrapping it in foil helps give it the
most favorable taste possible. Seafood can also be cooked in
a frying pan, or baked in an oven. If you do thaw out the
seafood before cooking it, then you have to make sure it is
cooked immediately upon thawing and should never be
refrozen.
Fresh seafood is generally high in protein and usually low
in fat which is ultimately why it is so good for you. There
are some varieties of seafood that do contain high fat
content but there are only a few of them, such as eel. Most
fish contain omega-3 fatty oils that can actually prevent
disease and treat illness. Eating fish regularly is actually
a very preventative health measure.
The list of diseases that can be prevented by simply eating
fresh seafood or taking fish oil regularly is lengthy. These
diseases and ailments include things like Alzheimer's
disease and cancer. Women in countries that consume large
amounts of seafood tend to have less risk of breast cancer,
than do women in countries where they eat large amounts of
red meat.
Women can also benefit from a diet of fresh seafood. Seafood
is an excellent source of iodine and iron, which aids the
thyroid and oysters, mussels and scallops will add iron and
zinc to your diet. There are just so many benefits from
eating seafood and fish regularly.
