All-American Colorado Springs

Colorado Springs, known for its picturesque beauty, is
also home to several distinctly American institutions.
Three, in particular, help to promote and display the
best of America.
The United States Air Force Academy, located 14 miles
north of downtown, welcomes visitors year-round. Among
the chief sites is the world-famous chapel, known for its
unique, angular architecture. Music buffs are also
familiar with its famous organ. The chapel shows just
a small part of the lifestyles of cadets as they pursue
excellence of character, physical fitness, and outstanding
academic achievement.
Sports aficionados will want to visit the United States
Olympic Training Center. One can check out displays like
the 12-foot Olympic Ring Wall, the rooftop Olympic flame,
the Hall of Fame Rotunda, and the Olympic Spirit store.
Those that would like to try a bit of training like an
Olympian can rent bikes to ride in the training center's
velodrome when it isn't being used by the cycling team.
Colorado's most famous landmark is Pikes Peak, which looms
above the city to the west. Katherine Lee Bates took to
its 14,000 foot plus summit in 1895 and was so moved by
what she saw, she penned the words to the immortal song,
"America the Beautiful." Today's visitors can reach the
summit by means of a convenient highway.
Colorado Springs, with its favorable climate and
picturesque beauty, not only represents the best of
what Colorado has to offer, it represents the best
of America!
