Golf is a very popular sport today. It is an age-old sport,
which became popular in Great Britain in the 17th century
with first golf course in Scotland. Scotland is also the
place, which hosted the first ever British Open for golf in
Prestwick. Though the game became widespread in UK it is in
North America where the first golf clubs were formed.
Initially, golf club courses had only three holes but as the
game and demand grew, the number of holes was increased.
Finally reaching its 18 hole status in 1893 at the golf
course in Wheaton, Illinois.

The Professional Golfers Association - also known as the
PGA is the parent organization that supports major golf
tournaments. These tournaments are focused towards both
professionals and amateurs. Recently it has also added
on the United States women~s open, ladies professional
golf association (LPGA), and other major tournaments that
are organized all over. Golf is a sport that gets rich
dividends. There have been many big names that have made
big bucks from this game. The trend was started by Arnold
Palmer who in 1968 became the first golfer to earn over one
million dollars from the sport. Jack Nicklaus who was chosen
five times as the PGA player of the year, was earning over
two million dollars a year in 1973. He went on to make a
record high in 1988 by earning five million dollars in
one year. This huge attraction of large pay checks
attracts a lot of people to this sport.

Golf has spread all over the world. No matter where you
are you are never far from a golf course. You may not be
a great golfer but it does not mean that you cannot enjoy
playing the lovely game of golf. It is a very relaxing
game to be played by all. All country clubs usually have
golf courses where you can enjoy yourself with your friends
and family. If you are unsure of your skills, you can also

Make sure you have the right equipment to take with you on
the golf course. That set of golf clubs that are just right
for you, and the proper outfit for golfing, including the
correct shoes. Before long you may feel like a professional.
