How Psychics Tell You What You Want To Hear
by Ellette Sellenger

I get the sense that you are artistic... something to do
with art -- no, no, music. You write your own songs, don't
you? But this isn't your occupation - you get paid to do
something else, yes? You don't resent this, though. In fact
I'd say you're one of those lucky people who truly likes
your job. There's someone at the office.. mm... does the
letter M mean anything to you?

For starters, sharpen your observational skills. Become a
Sherlock Holmes. Notice things like posture, expression and
tone of voice and how to interpret them. There are some
obvious, universal 'tells' that give away everything from
doubt to fear to excitement. Most people have no idea how
clearly they telegraph their emotions with the tiniest
changes of facial expressions.

Psychics are trained - either deliberately or through trial
and error - to recognize those signs and use them to guide
their predictions. Want to know how to do it? There are
basic rules and general guidelines to follow that will have
you amazing and astounding everyone you know with your new
abilities.

Let's fast forward to Mr. Holmes' explanation of how he knew
where the person before him had been.

"It's elementary, my dear Watson," he'd say. "The callous on
the inner aspect of the gentleman's second finger is
characteristic of a pen being in constant contact with the
skin there. That tells me that he is a clerk of some sort,
for that callous is seldom seen on others. Though he has
taken great pains with his appearance, the cuffs of his
shirt are slightly frayed, suggesting a rather recent
downturn in his fortunes. Though his shoes are new, they're
ill-fitting enough to have caused a blister which makes him
limp, which suggests that he borrowed them in order to
present the best appearance possible. Finally, his pallor
suggests a recent confinement away from the sun."

3. Keep your statements vague enough to backpedal if the
reaction you get is puzzlement. A blank look to the
statement about an opportunity might lead you to add, 'you
may not even recognize it at first, or it may not have been
offered to you yet. You should keep your eye out for a
chance to prove yourself.' That's a statement that's
impossible to disprove. Everyone is offered opportunties all
the time. The next time your friend is offered one, they'll
remember your prediction.

Moving from general to specific is another trick that
psychics use to pinpoint and finetune their 'predictions'. A
favorite statement of this type is, 'I sense that you have
some problems with an authority figure on your life'. Two
very broad statements there - 'problems' and 'authority
figure' are both wide open to interpretation. If you react
positively to that statement, the reader will start
following more specific paths - 'It could be your father...
or a boss...or.. have you had trouble with the law
recently?' Your reactions to each of those statements are
like signposts that point him or her further down the right
road to dazzling you with their 'powers of perception'.

5. Use your words to influence perceptions. Take the
statement 'Someone in your workplace is interested in you'.
Once you put that statement out there, the person you're
reading for will find it nearly impossible to keep from
wondering which person it might be. Viewed through the
perception that someone 'likes' them, chances are good that
they WILL come up with a possible 'secret admirer'.

6. Give them all the rope they need to tell you what they
want to hear. Listen more than talk. Encourage confidences
with nonverbal cues like nods and attention, then repeat
what you were told in slightly different words. Most people
won't even realize how much they've told you.

Subtly influence perceptions with your 'predictions' or
'readings'. It's actually not that difficult to influence
someone's perceptions of their world by making a suggestion
to them. If I tell you, for instance, that there is someone
in your life bent on causing you trouble, it's almost
impossible for you to not start reviewing all the people
that you know and seeing their actions in light of that
statement. Likewise, when you look back on the reading after
something happens, you're predisposed to recalling the
things that seemed to come true rather than those that were
wildly off the mark.
