Guitar is a six-stringed musical instrument that is quite
similar to a lute. You must have surely played a guitar
some time in your life. It is played by plucking the
strings with fingers or by strumming it with a pick. The
earlier versions of the guitar resembled the lute by having
a couple of strings. A guitar has a slender waist and a
flat back. The other variants of a guitar besides the six

The outstanding feature of a steel guitar is that it
produces a sliding tone when it is strummed with a metal
bar. The four stringed bass guitar and the electric guitar
go well with rock music and rely on electronics for
amplifying the sound.

The conventional guitars that are classical, originated in
Spain in the 12th century, but became popular only in 16th
century when music was exclusively created for them.
Fernando Sor was the master in playing guitar. He was a
composer and composed music exclusively for the guitar. The
19th century was the zenith in popularity of guitar and the
credit for this goes to one of the stalwarts in the world of
guitar- Francisco Tarrega.

The origin of conventional guitars was in Spain in the 12th

instruments in performing arts. The reason for its
popularity lies in the fact that the technology is more
improved now as is the reach of the media. Television,
satellite communications, Internet,recording studios and
radio have contributed tremendously in spreading guitar
music across the globe. The concert occurring in one part
of the world is enjoyed by people around the globe. As
more and more people get involved with the music,
lots of opportunities are created for different types of
instruments to be played at the concerts and recording
studios. Can there be any better way to arouse interest
among the listeners other than using an instrument, like
guitar, that's funky and identified by young and old alike?
