Keys to Awesome Business Cards

When you are planning for your business, do not neglect
the importance of a quality and professional-looking
business card. While you may have websites and other
literature, you likely will get people in contact with you
through your business card. That means that you need to
have a card with a great, eye-catching design that will
give people all of the basic information about you and your
company.

Take care to create a card with all of the important
elements. This quick guide will let you in on the keys to
having a great business card.

Think about the message you'd like to portray. Try to
think of a business card design and coloring that will
match the tenor of your company. You want to use your card
to give the personality of your company. So, before you
begin putting information on the card, think about the
ambience of your business.

Next, think of the graphics that you will want on your
card. You can opt for a colorful card or a black and white
version. The two options provide different looks, and you
should make this decision first. Another option is between
laminated or non-laminated cards. In general, non-laminated
card look more professional because they are more
traditional and accepted. Laminated cards last longer,
however, and can undergo tougher treatment than
non-laminated cards.

After you have a color and lamination decision, choose a
font. Traditional fonts, such as Times New Roman, are
always acceptable, but you may want to branch out from
those conventional selections. Some fonts give a certain
message, such as bookish fonts or more entertaining fonts,
and you can consider those type sets for your business.
Be sure the font is easily readable, however, as some more
contemporary fonts are difficult to distinguish.

Make sure you balance the card's overall design with the
font selection. A busy pattern coupled with a complicated
font design will make for a very overwhelming card. It will
be too hard on people's eyes, and you may not be able to
make out what it says. You do not want to do too much on
your card, or you - and your business - will get lost in
the card.

Similarly, very simple or solid colors with standard fonts
means may be boring. Keep your audience in mind when you
design the balance of the cards. People will think you do
not have much creativity, and they may take their business
elsewhere, especially if you are in a field requiring
innovation. Be sure to check the card to see that the
pertinent information, including your name, phone number,
and URL, can be identified quickly. The purpose of the card
is to allow people to read it; do not let your creative
juices overflow the function of your card.

Be sure to include the necessary information on your card.
You should have your business' name, your phone number,
your fax number, your URL, and your name & position. Do not
let the graphics overcome the text; they should not obscure
information about your business in any way. Move things
around until you find the design that works for you, and
remember that your business says far more about your
business than you ever can.
